In Psalm 62, David declares that God is both strong and loving. That is such good news! He has the power to save, to heal but also the desire to do so. Which is why David also says that our rest, our salvation, our hope are in God alone.
“One thing God has spoken,
two things have I heard:
that You, O God, are strong,
and that You, O Lord, are loving.”
Psalm 62v11-12
Father,
You are strong.
You are loving.
Not just strong.
Not just loving.
But strong and loving.
You don’t just have the power to do good, to create beauty, to save and heal, to keep Your promises.
You have the desire to.
You are our good, good Father.
Who longs to give Your children good gifts…
And Who has the power to do so.
All-Powerful, All-Loving, You are.
For this reason, my soul finds rest in You alone.
All my hope comes from You.
You are my Rock and my Salvation.
You are my Fortress and my Refuge.
I will not be shaken.
I choose to trust in You.
To trust in You at all times.
Teach me to trust in You at all times.
I believe…
Help my unbelief.
Remind me that even in this I can trust You.
Because not only are You strong…
But You are loving too.
And so, day-after-day, I will pour out my heart to You.
I will pour out my praise.
I will pour out my pain.
I will pour out my faith.
I will pour out my doubt.
I will pour out my love.
I will pour out my lament.
I will pour out my thanks.
I will pour out my thirst.
Because not only are You strong…
But You are loving too.
You are my Fortress…
In the praise and the pain.
In the faith and the doubt.
In the love and the lament.
In the thanks and the thirst.
In it all, You are my Fortress.
And I will not be shaken.
Not because of who I am.
But because of who You are.
And You are strong and loving.
Thank You, Father.
Thank You for being strong and loving.
Thank You for being powerful and compassionate.
Thank You for being mighty and gentle.
My salvation is You. My hope is You.
Thank You.
Amen.
