“People Aren’t Products” is a prayer to remind us that we and others are made in the image of God. God calls us to love one another. If we consume and objectify one another, we destroy not only others but also ourselves.
Father,
You are the Creator.
You created us.
You created us as people.
Not as products.
We aren’t meant to consume one another.
We’re meant to love one another.
We’re meant to care for the poor and needy among us.
We’re meant to stand up for the widowed and oppressed.
We were called to be free.
But we aren’t to use our freedom to indulge in the flesh.
Rather we are to serve one another humbly in love.
Father, help us to love one another.
As long as we bite and devour each other, we will destroy each other.
And destruction isn’t Your desire.
Your desire is for us to live good, full, merciful lives.
Lives that give life to others.
Lives that hold to Your teaching.
Lives that follow Your way.
Lives that are generous to the poor and needy.
Lives that are sensitive to Your voice.
Your Son gave up His life to give us this life.
Father, teach us to receive the great gift that You have given us.
Teach us to share the great gift that You have given us.
Teach us to love one another as You have loved us.
Forgive us our sins.
Give us a willing spirit.
And a spirit that is unwilling to sin.
Let us not trample the Son of God underfoot.
Let us not treat the blood that covered the Cross as unholy.
Let us not insult the Spirit of grace.
Father, we are people, not products.
Help us to receive, to truly accept Your love.
Others are people, not products.
Help us to freely give of Your love.
Let love become our first nature.
Help us walk and live in the Spirit.
Jesus, please, for Your glory and for our good.
Amen.
Take a moment today to read and meditate on Galatians 5v13-26. Allow the Holy Spirit to convict you of where you may be taking advantage of others. Seek forgiveness from God and those you have wronged. Ask the Spirit to help you keep in step with Him. Pray that you may become more like Christ each day bearing the fruit of the Spirit in ever-increasing measure and richness.
