Psalm 63 is a desert prayer—a prayer from a dry and weary land. It can be easy to try and quench the thirst of our souls on our own. But only the One who made us can satisfy us.
“O God, You are my God,
earnestly I seek You.
my soul thirsts for You,
my body longs for You,
in a dry and wear land
where there is no water.
Psalm 63v1
O God,
You are my Father.
You are my Friend.
You are my Counselor.
Earnestly I seek You.
My soul thirsts for You,
My body longs for You,
My heart hungers for You…
In a dry and weary land
Where there is no water,
Where there is no food.
Father, I want to see You.
I want to behold Your power and Your glory and Your beauty.
I want to know Your heart.
I want to see Your face.
I want to hear Your voice.
I want to feel Your touch.
I want to taste Your goodness.
I want to smell Your fragrance.
I want to walk with You all the days of my life.
I want to abide in Your love all the days of my life…
Because Your love is better than life.
You are my Life.
All I am is Yours.
All my love.
All my heart.
All my mind.
All my body.
All I have.
You can have it all.
Take all of me.
Because all I want is You.
One thing I ask,
This is what I seek:
That I may dwell in Your presence all the days of my life
To behold Your beauty
And to seek Your face.
Earnestly I seek You, God.
I seek You—my Father, my Friend, my Counselor.
My soul thirsts for You.
When will You quench my thirst?
My body longs for You.
When will You satisfy my longing?
My heart hungers for You.
When will You fill my hunger?
Father, quench my thirsty soul, but may I never stop thirsting.
Jesus, satisfy my longing body, but may I never stop longing.
Spirit, fill my hungry heart, but may I never stop hungering.
I wait for You.
Please…
Meet me in this dry and weary land
Where there is no water,
Where there is no food.
Amen.
Take a moment today to read Psalm 63. Take your thirst and longing and hunger to God. Ask Him to fill. Ask for His love to truly become better than life. Offer up all that you have. All the belief that He will satisfy. All the unbelief that He won’t. Offer it all up. Ask for belief and for Him to help your unbelief. I can’t say you’ll leave feeling better. But I can say with confidence that your Father heard you and He will answer in a matter of time. So even if you still feel like you’re in a dry and weary land keep asking. Keep thirsting. Keep longing. Keep hungering. Don’t try to quench or satisfy or fill that desire on your own. Trust that He will quench your thirst, satisfy your longing and fill your hunger.
