Today’s prayer “Father” begins a series of prayers working through what is known as the Lord’s prayer found in Matthew 6v9-13 and Luke 11v2-4. The Lord’s prayer is a teaching from Jesus on how to pray and provides us with a framework for communicating and living life with the Father. We’re going to walk through it in the weeks ahead and see what we can learn from Jesus on praying beginning with the way we address God—as Father.
Father,
That is who You are to us.
You are our Father.
We are Your children.
You are my Father, and I am Your son.
You are my provider and protector.
You love me and care for me.
You are pleased to call me Yours.
Not because of anything I’ve done.
But because of all You’ve done.
You bought me back by the blood of Your Son to be brought back into Your family.
You’ve come and met me where I am.
You’ve embraced me, held me close and kissed my filthy muck-and-mire face.
You’ve clothed me with a robe and sandals and ring.
You’ve welcomed me back, brought me in and thrown a love feast for me.
Your love, Father, is my reality.
I’m right where I belong—with You.
I cry, “Abba, Father, Dad,” and You answer me.
You draw near to me and hold me close.
My head rests on Your chest where I feel Your heartbeat, where I hear it beat for me.
You love me.
You are good to me.
You are my Father.
There’s no place I’d rather be.
There’s nothing better than You.
I love You.
All I need, all I want is found in You.
I can’t get enough of You.
You are always with me.
You don’t leave or forsake me.
You don’t know how to be absent.
Your presence is always present.
There’s no end to my time with You.
Thank You, Father.
Thank You for the love, joy and peace I find in Your presence, in life with You.
Thank You for welcoming me in with open arms and covering me in love.
Thank You that I am never without You. I get to live each moment of every day with You.
Thank You for that I don’t have to prove a thing because You’ve already approved of me. I just get to live out of a deep, loving enjoyment of Your company.
Thank You for being my Father.
Amen.
