Come abide in me. This is the primary invitation of Jesus and should be the deepest desire and cry of His followers. There is nothing better than to know Him and be with Him. A prayer from reflection on Matthew 11v28-30, Luke 11v5-13 and John 15v1-8.
Prayer has many shapes and forms. Often, it takes the form of us pouring our hearts out to God. But prayer is a conversation: God talking to us and us talking to God, us listening to God and God listening to us. And oftentimes, Jesus has already started the conversations that we think we’re starting. That’s just who He is. We couldn’t make our way to God, so instead God came to us. And Jesus continues to come to us and meet us in prayer.
May this prayer be an encouragement for you today. May it pique your curiosity in what Jesus is saying to you today.
Jesus:
Tired, lonely? Burned out, scared?
Drowning in your despair?
Come abide in Me.
Us:
I’m beaten down, broken, bruised.
Feeling empty and confused.
But before I spoke a word, You already knew.
Come abide in me.
Come to Me and find your rest.
Healing for heaviness.
Come abide in Me.
I want to know Your joy and peace,
Your life and love that You promised me.
Come abide in me.
Leave it all at My feet.
All the worry, all the hurry.
All the guilt, all the shame.
Take this gift I offer thee.
For in My presence, you’ll be free.
Come abide in Me.
I leave it all at Your feet.
I take this gift You offer me.
Free of guilt, free of shame.
Freely I pour out Your praise.
Full of peace, full of joy,
Fully known, fully Yours.
Come abide in me.
Come and stay. Make your home with Me.
Come and see. You’ll find peace in Me.
Come and hear. There is good news for you.
Come and taste. My presence is sweet.
Live in the joy of My delight.
Come abide in Me.
Make my heart into Your home.
All I want is You alone.
Dwell within I’m fully Yours.
I belong to You.
I want nothing more.
Come abide in me.
My Spirit is fully yours
And freely I’ll give you more.
Ask and ask and you will receive.
Seek and seek and you will find.
Knock and knock and you will have an open door.
Come abide in Me.
Father, more of You is all I want.
Spirit, come and invade my heart.
May all the minutes of all my days
Be filled with Your presence and unending grace.
Come abide in me.
Amen.
